Our Story

Dr. Carl Frensley and his family moved to Hendersonville to organize what is now Bible Baptist Church. With no building or money, the Frensleys took a step of faith, arranging to use the Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home for services. The church was organized on the last Sunday of July in 1969 with 44 charter members.

After meeting in the funeral chapel for approximately one year, the church purchased two and a half acres on New Shackle Island Road and soon built a 40-by-80-foot building. This was the first of eight building programs which added an auditorium, Christian school, gymnasium and fellowship hall, and church offices.

All the land and buildings have been completely debt-free since the year 2000.

In August 1997, Bible Baptist called Jim Crockett as Pastor. The church continued to grow and prosper under his leadership. Over the years, the gospel has reached thousands through the ministries of Bible Baptist Church, both in Hendersonville and around the world. The church continues to fulfill the purpose for which it was started – to glorify Christ by preparing believers to proclaim Christ’s love to the world.

In 2000, Bible Baptist purchased 35 acres of land for future expansion of the ministry. In 2009, an additional acre and building were purchased bringing the total acreage to 36. The property is called “Rehoboth” because the Lord gave direction to buy the property from Genesis 26:22. The name Rehoboth means, “The Lord has made room for us.” The future goal is to relocate the new church facilities to Rehoboth as the Lord provides the financial means to build.

After 17 years of ministry at Bible Baptist Church, God called Pastor Jim Crockett into global ministry. In December 2014, Pastor Crockett resigned from Bible Baptist and, in response to God’s call to obedience to the faith among all nations (Romans 1:5) and the care of all the churches (II Corinthians 11:28), Pastor Crockett launched R1 Ministries. R1 Ministries’ mission is to equip and encourage ministers of the gospel globally in effort to build the body of Christ. Pastor and Joy are called to the world to minister.

On March 29, 2015, Bible Baptist called Dr. Greg Mutsch as Pastor. Pastor and Luann were members of Bible Baptist for several years while he served as the Executive Director of Business Administration at Accelerated Christian Education (ACE).  We welcome Pastor Mutsch back into the pastorate and look forward to seeing the Lord work through him over the coming years.
